Vintage Fillmore Poster, BG-216, Grateful Dead, Taj Mahal Fillmore West Feb 1970

Vintage Grateful Dead Fillmore poster! This show took place in February, 1970, at Fillmore West, and featured The Grateful Dead and Taj Mahal as the main acts!

It is a 100% original, 1st printing of this vintage poster! The most serious issue, is that this poster, with art by renowned San Francisco poster artist, David Singer, who is known for the psychedelic nature of a lot of his artwork, is considered to be one of, if not the, most psychedelic of the 4 posters that the artist did for The Grateful Dead! How is this a problem, you may ask. Well, it became a problem when I was deciding how to display this poster in a frame.

Because I felt it so perfectly captured the vibe of a Dead show, I decided to make it a Grateful Dead poster, rather than a Grateful Dead concert poster! A very long time ago, I had the bottom of the poster bent back so that all you could see, when framed, was the artwork , and Grateful Dead at the top!

I felt that kind of said it all! Take a look at the artwork. Known as "The Mushroom Man", the art for this poster has been described as "The diminutive runner, stripped of his vanities, pads towards the cosmos via the not-so-subtle mushroom portal"!

Singer himself has said that the poster has "a certain LSD mystique"! So, nothing against Taj Mahal he's great! , but I preferred the poster as a general Grateful Dead poster that captured their essence perfectly! I have since unfolded the poster, but there remains a strong crease where the fold was (see pics). There are also pinholes, tape marks, creases, and stains, in the border, and certain areas where the black border has been ripped away by tape removal. There's also about a 3 inch tear, starting at the line that would be formed by connecting the 2 end points of the "L" in Taj Mahal, and extending at a 45 degree angle to the edge of the poster. The tear was taped from the rear, years ago, and I did not try to remove the tape. The good news is, most of the damage is in the border, so when framed, this poster would still display fairly nicely! Just take a look at my photos, and you can see for yourself, everything I've described, including close ups of the damage areas.
