I obtained this piece, in 2008. I guarantee its authenticity 100%. This handbill measures 8 1/2" x 11" and is in NM condition, other than a slight fading all around the rim, due to a previous framing. It has been kept in IMMACULATE shape and its the ONLY ONE KNOWN, other than the one hand colored years years later by Sunshine Kesey, and featured in the Art of Rock, Page 91, A.2.4 - The one featured there appears to be yellow in color, while this one is orange. Printed on thick paper stock, this will not bend easily. Its sturdy which is partly how its held its shape this well for so long. This handbill was HAND COLORED BY THE MERRY PRANKSTERS and GIFTED to the Grateful Dead back in 1965 at the time of the Acid Test. I have confirmed this with Billy Kreutzmann personally at a show in Petaluma, CA several years back. One of these was gifted to each of the Grateful Dead members at the time, but I have not seen any others turn up so far. Currently, this is the only surviving example. This is literally a piece of psychedelic artwork, not just a handbill. This is a very special item. The hand coloring matches the hand coloring on my poster that was hand colored by the Merry Pranksters, also available at this time. An opportunity like this may never come up again.
This is truly a "once in a lifetime" chance to acquire a very important piece of early psychedelic history, that is sure to increase in value over time. This was one of Jerry Garcia's first bands ever.
