With band names like Quicksilver Messenger Service and the Grateful Dead, artist Wes Wilson had no problem coining this design The Quick and The Dead. The Grateful Dead were pretty new to the scene by these June 10-11 shows, and was the first time they had headlined for either the Family Dog or Bill Graham.
Although Wilson kept the poster simple in black and white, its one of the first times a skeleton had been associated with the Grateful Dead something they would eventually become synonymous with. This original handbill, measuring 5 3/4 x 8 1/2, is on thin white paper stock similar to early Fillmore handbills.Artist Wes Wilson signed the bottom right corner in pencil. This is a must-have Family Dog image either in poster or handbill format! Llectors seeking truly vintage posters there is no other source that can match the breadth and authenticity of the collection at Wolfgang's Vault. To see our other auctions!
