My third print in my portrait series, Jerry Garcia (Autumn), seeks to capture the wisdom and compassion of the Grateful Deads lead guitarist. Jerry anchored the concert hall with his good nature, while a wild, free improvisation swirled through him and around him. I wove a psychedelic paisley pattern throughout the design rendered in nine colors, including bright hues, hand-blended metallics and translucent glazes. My aim is to portray the elder Jerry, the mature artist with a child-like wonder tempered by A Touch of Grey. In a decade that dealt many challenges, Jerrys determined belief I will get by, I will survive inspired his greatest moments of clarity and energy.
