1966 Original Grateful Dead Quicksilver Wes Wilson Handbill. This is one of the first times that a Skeleton had been associated with the Grateful Dead! Also the first time they had headlined for either Bill Graham or Family Dog! This piece is part of a Collectors Estate. This handbill is 5 ¾ by 8 ½ and is in very good condition for thin paper.
Of course no one archived and preserved this, so it is what it is. The corners are all there, but not perfect. The best thing to do with this is to have a professional shop that does framing and mounting, press it on a heavy matt and mount it! With band names like Quicksilver Messenger Service and the Grateful Dead, artist Wes Wilson had no problem coining this design The Quick and The Dead.
The Grateful Dead were fairly new to the music scene by these June 10-11 shows, and was the first time they had headlined for either the Family Dog or Bill Graham. Although Wilson kept the poster simple in black and white, its one of the first times a skeleton had been associated with the Grateful Dead something they would eventually become synonymous with.
