SIGNED Grateful Dead Janis Joplin 1967 TRIP OR FREAK AOR 2.183 Poster 17/250

The "Trip Or Freak" poster image was a collaboration between Stanley Mouse, Alton Kelley & Rick Griffin. It was used as art for the posters and handbills for the 1967 Halloween show at Winterland Arena that featured the Grateful Dead, Big Brother & The Holding Co. Appropriately, it is featured in "The Art Of Rock", plate 2.183. IAnd, in 1991, the three artists silkscreened the poster on a much larger scale than the original (almost twice the size), and put a high quality black matte around the outside of the poster.

They had planned on signing and numbering 250 of them, but the untimely and tragic death of Rick Griffin cut those plans short (I think Rick was able to sign just a couple). Very few were actually numbered or signed by any of the artists, but a dozen or so were signed by Kelley (he stopped when Rick died), and one of those is the item offered here, and as you can see from the scan, Alton commenced to doodling it pretty heavily, and numbered it 17/20. This absolutely stunning print measures approximately 23 1/4" x 39 1/2" (including the black matte), and remains in beautiful near mint condition (a couple of minor edge flaws). All that is left to do is put a black frame around the outer edge, and this will make any room in which it hangs.
