Stored flat in acid free sleeve and in archival storage box. Let me know if youd like this. Original concert poster for a show promoted by the Love Conspiracy commune. Billed as "The First Annual Love Circus". The event was held on March 3rd, 1967.
The Love Circus featured Lights by Commune, Free Buttons, Body and Face Painting as well as a few pretty good bands, namely Love, Grateful Dead, Moby Grape, Loading zone and Blue Crumb Dump Truck Factory Circus attendees are asked to bring Bells, Incense Food, Beads, Flowers, costumes. Another thing they were asked to bring was Three dollars and fifty cents. That may not sound like much, but it was enough to ignite a firestorm at the time.Apparently, the Diggers, another San Francisco commune, took serious offense with the price of admission being anything more than zero. In other words, they demanded a free show and picketed the gig accordingly. The Grateful Dead sided with the Diggers and demanded the picketers be let in for free. The Love Commune relented, let some picketers in, and the show went on. The venue for all this drama was none other than Winterland Arena in San Francisco. In fact, this was the first time the Grateful Dead played Winterland in their career. Drama aside, the artwork is by Herrick and is it ever psychedelic!
