1986 Grateful Dead Surfing Tres Skeletons Silkscreen Signed by Rick Griffin

In 1986, artist Rick Griffin created two separate images for the Grateful Deads 1986 Summer Tour. Griffin said that Bob Weir wanted the band somehow associated with surfing, so he created one image of a skeleton hanging a cheater five and another with three skeletons. The later was turned into a limited edition silkscreen of 200 created with Mouse Studios (500 were intended to be created, but only 200 were). Although this copy is signed by Griffin in pencil and has the Mouse Studios embossed seal, it was never numbered due to the blue ink being off register. This original silkscreen poster, measuring 20 x 26, is on medium weight uncoated paper stock.

As mentioned above, the blue ink is not applied in the correct spots, making it look very psychedelic. However, the image is really amazing and would look killer if framed. Llectors seeking truly vintage posters there is no other source that can match the breadth and authenticity of the collection at Wolfgang's Vault. To see our other auctions!
