On Thanksgiving weekend, 1982, Denver entrepreneur Barry Fey hosted the Jamaica World Music Festival at the Bob Marley Performing Arts Center in Montego Bay, Jamaica. It included an array of bands, playing over three nights. The concert was promised by Fey after lobbying for the rights to develop Montego Bays rocky beaches with hotels and shops.
Although his promise included an annual festival for the next 3 years, this was the only one due to the monetary losses it took to throw the festival. The bands for each show are listed below. Jimmy Buffett replaced by The Wailers. Gladys Knight & The Pips.Rita Marley & the Melody Makers. The original poster, measuring 13 7/8 x 22, is on thick cardboard similar to other boxing style posters. This is a rare variant of the merchandise poster, which actually was on thin paper stock.
This cardboard version, printed by the Colby Poster Printing Co. Included travel agencies in the lower section rather than ticket outlet information. This is a very cool festival poster that includes some of the biggest bands in the last 60 years! Llectors seeking truly vintage posters there is no other source that can match the breadth and authenticity of the collection at Wolfgang's Vault. To see our other auctions!
